This position is based in Bangalore, India.

Help us learn about technology users in India! Google is looking for a User Experience Researcher to design and conduct user research studies across the product cycle, from concept to post-launch evaluation. The researcher we're looking for will be highly skilled in a range of research methods and will have significant experience working on discovery research for new web based applications. This researcher will also have a minimum of 5 years experience carrying out and/or supervising laboratory based evaluations using a variety of methods.

The ideal candidate for this job will have outstanding communication skills and will be able to demonstrate the ability to incorporate design research into the overall product cycle. The ability to work successfully with interdisciplinary teams is essential. The ability to explain the fundamentals of research practice to non-specialists, and to drive change based on research findings are highly desirable.

This position will introduce the research discipline in our growing Bangalore office. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a range of project including hands-on research, participation in product, design and engineering reviews, and the formulation of strategic planning for user experience research. As the position is in Bangalore, the successful candidate will be fluent in written and spoken English in addition to Hindi and/or Tamil and Kannada. Knowledge of additional Indian languages is especially helpful. While this position will focus on India, experienced researchers who have been trained outside of India but meet other requirements are invited to apply.

As a researcher in Google's Bangalore office, you will have the opportunity to work on products of many types, including many that are familiar and globally relevant- and some that are completely new and relevant to the local Indian market. While some research on web-based products and services is preferred, those whose primary research experience is in software and/or hardware are also invited to submit applications.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of successful research carried out in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. We would like to interview candidates with demonstrated expertise in three or more of the following areas:
Project management of multi-location user studies.
Accessibility and universal design.

Requirements:
B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, or related field.
Academic or practical knowledge of user research methods, including lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections (heuristic evaluations or cognitive walkthroughs).
Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to observation of user behavior.
Strong oral and written communication skills; can present findings concisely and effectively.
Can work independently and effectively prioritize time between multiple projects.
Flexible: can adapt to changing schedules and different types of products, and develop new user research methods where needed.
Can work well in cross-functional teams, including Engineers, Product Managers, and UI Designers.
Training in research methods and statistics.
Knowledge of or experience with any of the following is a big plus:
Early-stage user research methods such as contextual inquiry, paper
